Ardrahan

Round Tower

There is very little remaining of the round tower at Ardrahan. We arrived here quite late in the evening and had to endure a huge downpour before we could get any images of the surviving stump. The tower is located in the surrounding wall of the C of I parish church. It appears to be an early tower judging by the large coursed stone used to construct it. Sadly it is only 2.5 metres high with the inside full of brambles. The tower was probably about 5 metres in diameter. We cannot recommend a visit as there are far for more interesting towers to visit in Galway.

Situated: Easy. If you approach Ardrahan from Gort turn left on to the R347. The round tower can be seen about 150 metres down this road on your right. Look back towards the C of I Church.
