Bolton Hill Bullaun Stones On my way back from Castledermot monastic site I decided to stop at the Moone High Cross Inn. I had read about the bullaun stones there, but never had time to stop. There are four bullaun stones in total, but I could only locate the two that had come from the Castledermot area. The first bullaun is located in a huge boulder right outside the front door and sadly now used as an ashtray. The second stone is a real beauty, it is located directly across the road from the pub and has two perfectly formed bullauns. The larger one is 0.3 m in diameter and the smaller is 0.25m. I returned recently to view the other two bullaun stones, they are situated in a small patio to the left of the entrance. See stones 3 and 4 below. |
