Cahermacnaghten
Stone Fort
This caher is famous for being the Law School of the O'Davoren family where Duald MacFirbis studied the Brehon Law. It was probably built in the medieval period as a fortified farmstead. The walls are 1.8 metres high at the west and 2.5metres high at the east. Huge blocks of limestone were used in it's constuction. There was have an external batter. Inside the fort there are the foundations of a large house and three or four other buildings.
Situated: About 3K north of Noughaval. From Kilfenora take the Lisdoonvarna road north and follow the signs for Noughaval, keep going north on this road for approx 6K, the fort is down a small road on your left.
