Drumanone

Portal Tomb

As can be seen from the picture on the left, the capstone of the portal tomb at Drumanone, County Roscommon, has slipped back from the two portal stones, but it is still a fine example of its kind. The two portal stones stand to a height of two metres and the tomb still retains the almost full height doorstone, pictured below. It was quite overcast on my last visit and the images do not do this tomb justice.

Situated: From Boyle take the R294 west for almost three kilometres after crossing under the railway bridge you will see a cottage on your right with a narrow lane running North, park here and walk to the top of the lane, there is a gate with a warning sign as you are about to cross the railway line, the tomb is in a field immediately to your left. Please be careful.
