Glen William

Standing Stone

Driving back through Waterford, after a recent trip to Youghal, I decided to visit the standing stone in Glen William townland. It is situated on farmland about 6 kilometres NNE of Ardmore. The stone stands 1.55 metres high and according to the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' it has a diamond shaped cross section with an irregular profile at the northeast. The standing stone is orientated NE-SW. I searched around the field bank but could not find easy access, luckily for me the stone is located in the northwest corner of the field and can be viewed from the roadway.

Situated: From Ardmore travel southwest on the N25 for about 13 kilometres. Then take the R673 south towards Ardmore. After about 1.5 kilometres take a left turn at the crossroads. Go to the next crossroads (about 600m). The stone can be seen in the field at the southeast corner.
