Gleann Cholm Cille/Glencolmcille Turas Station 3, Áit na nGlún-Place of the knees Station 3 is a small ovoid shaped cairn, 2.90 by 2.16 metres in size. There is a flat stone, pictured below, with a rounded stone on top, possibly a curing or cursing stone. There were originally three of these round stones. The pilgrim would pass these stones around his body three times whilst invoking the Holy Trinity. Also close to the cairn is a depression in the ground where the pilgrim would kneel, it is known as Áit na nGlún - Place of the knees. Due to the long grass we were unable to locate the depression, but hopefully on our next trip we will manage to find it's whereabouts. |
