Keel East

Court Tomb

This is of two court tombs situated on the southern slopes of Slievemore mountain. On the day I visited the mist had shrouded the mountain and refused to afford us the beutiful views over the sandybanks Keel East. The tomb is aligned roughly north -south and has a huge capstone covering the southern chamber, it is difficult to say how many chambers actually made up the gallery, but there were at least two. The banner image above was taken looking south into the full court. There are a number of other megaliths situated in this locality, including another court tomb 400 metres south of here. I am looking forward to visiting some of these soon.

The Court

Situated: quite easy to access. From Keel East take the Slievemore road north and follow the road as it turns east. The tomb is well signposted, there is a small car-park at the bottom of the steep track that leads up to the tomb.
