Stone Cross

This charming little Latin Cross is made from granite and stands just 0.92 metres in high with arms 0.5 metres wide. At the centre of the head there is an inscribed Maltese Cross inside a circle. There are inscribed parallel lines running down the shaft from the circle and also extending out along the arms. A monastery at Kilmuckridge may have been founded by St Machain, a holy well at nearby Killincooly Beg in dedicated to him.

I first saw this cross on Antonio D'Imperio's wonderful web site Antonio and his wife are two irish stones enthusiasts who have been travelling to Ireland from Italy for many years. I hope you can appreciate and get as much pleasure from these antiquities as they do

Situated; From Kilmuckridge Village head south on the R742 for 1.3 kilometres. The stone cross is about 100 metres past Kilmuckridge church on the western side of the road.
