Kings Mountain

Passage Tomb Art

Situated in Kings Mountain is what first appears to be a standing stone, standing at over 2 metres tall this monolith is really quite impressive as you approach from the gate, see below, but what is on the other side of the stone is the main reason to visit. This decorated lintel is actually all that remains of a destroyed tomb. This side, pictured right is decorated with wonderfully inscribed large spirals. I counted at least six complete spirals. Click on the image right to see a close up of these largest spirals.

Situated: From Loughcrew take the road south towards Dublin, as you come into Ballinlough take a left turn, for Kings Mountain. Drive up to what appears to be a crossroads, Loughcrew is sign-posted left, but keep right on the main road, then take the next left, go up here till you see a bungalow on your left, there is a lane to the right of it, walk up the lane to a left turn, the megalith can be seen in the field in front of you immediately after the bend.
