Knocknarea South

Passage Tomb

I was delighted to find the remains of Knocknarea south passage tomb. After searching the southern area of the mountain nearest the tomb, we decided to follow the traces of a track leading south east from the main monument. On the surface there appears to be very little left of the actual cairn, but the chamber is easily identified. The monument is situated on the side of the mountain and offers splendid views of Ballysadare Bay and Benbulben. The Bricklieve mountains home to the megalithic complex of Carrowkeel can be seen from here and the legendary Knocknashee can also be spotted from this location.

Situated: From Queen Medb's look for a small track heading south east. Keep walking in this direction for about 200 metres. You should then see the larger stones.
