Larch Hill

AKA Kilmashogue dolmen

The ruined portal tomb at Kilmashogue is located at the National campsite of Scouting Ireland. It is such a shame this tomb has collapsed as it is beautifully situated amongst some trees in the dolmen field next to a babbling brook. The capstone which has slipped back from the portal stones, is about 3 metres in length. Only one of the portal stones is still standing, see image left, the other lies under one of the roots of a tree. It is still possible to see some of the cairn material scattered around the chamber.

Situated: In the dolmen field at the National Scouting Headquarters Dublin. From the M50 take the Knocklyon exit, head east on the R133, then turn south onto the R116, after passing under the M50 flyover take the next left and drive to the end of this road, you will then see the entrance to the campsite. Please ask for permission before visiting the tomb.
