Parish Church and Wall Plaque

The parish church has been in disrepair since 1641. At present all you can see is the northside of the chancel arch. Built into the underside of the arch is a very interesting wall plaque. It originally lay on the ground in the graveyard. An inscription on the plaque reads: HERE VNDER LIETHE THE BODY OF DAME IENET SARSFELD LADY DOWAGER OF DONSANY WHO DYED THE XXII OF FEBRVARY AN DNI 1597. Lady Jenet Sarsfield, was a daughter of William Sarsfield, Mayor of Dublin. She was married six times, her list of husbands reads like a who's who. 1) Alderman Robert Shillingford. 2) Robert Plunkett, 5th Lord Dunsany. 3) James Luttrell of Luttrellstown. 4) Sir Thomas Cusack of Lismullen. 5) Sir John Plunkett of Donsoghly and finally 6) Sir John Bellew, Bellewstown and Dardistown Castle.

Situated: From Drogheda head south on the R132. After Julianstown take the 2nd left onto Sandyhall Rd. The church is aboutapprox 150m down here on your right.
