Cross Inscribed Pillar

The cross pillar stands at the entrance to a farmyard, about 60 metres south of Mothel Abbey. The 1.2 metre high sandstone pillar tapers from the base to the square top. Cut into the top of the pillar is a square socket with rounded corners. This suggests it may be the shaft of a cross, with the head now missing. The northwest face bears traces of an incised cross, you can just make out the outline in the image above. The decoration may show up more with off camera flash.

Situated: From Mothel Abbey walk south towards the farm gate. The pillar is located on the east side of the road, south side of the gate.
