Portal Tomb

I had seen photos of this portal tomb taken before 2006. The monument was completely covered with brambles and it almost impossible to see. I had read the brambles had been cleared and my first thought on seeing the tomb was one of delight. It's sculptural appearance, tilted capstone and compactness, had all the hallmarks of a fine Portal tomb. On closer inspection I felt something was wrong. The chamber is orientated in a north-east direction, but the capstone is tilted toward the northwest. The side stones of the chamber are all leaning to the southeast and the capstone, which must have been replaced after 2006, judging by the old images, is now resting on them.

The Portal tomb is situated on private property, please ask for permission before visiting, you will find the landowners are very accommodating.
