Shantemon Stone Row

AKA Finn McCools Fingers

What a great location, situated on the northern side of Shantemon hill the alignment was hidden in a conifer plantation up until recently, now that most of the trees have been cleared on this side of the hill we are now rewarded with some splendid views of County Cavan. The row is aligned along a NE-SW axis and is about 16 metres long, consisting of four large bulky standing stones, the largest is almost 2 metres high with a fallen small boulder at the NE end of the row. The row stands on a small plateau about 180 metres up the hill not too far from the top. The best way to approach is from a small road running along the northern side of the hill. The gorgeous image below was taken in 2019, thanks to Cheryl for sharing it with us.

Situated: On the Northern side of Shantemon Hill. From Cavan take the R188 north, take the first right at Drumalee, take a left at the next crossroads, this takes you 3 1/2 kilometres up to the side of Shantemon hill. Do not follow the first sign for "Finn McCool's Fingers" but park at the second sign "the Finger Stones" take the forest trail, after 350 metres there is a smaller trail to your right walk up this track to the alignment.
