Aghagower/Aughagower Tobar na ndeochaun/Holy Well This dried up well is situated on the roadside; at the northwest corner of the graveyard. The name Aghagower is derived from the Irish Achaidh fobhair meaning 'field of the spring' unfortunately due to a local drainage scheme the two holy wells at Aghagower have now dried up. A few steps inside the low rectangular wall led down the well. Tobar na ndeochaun translates to 'Well of the Deacons' If anyone has information about how the well acquired the name, I would be delighted to here from you. |
