Clane Bullaun Stone At times this huge bullaun stone can prove difficult to find. The large rectangular limestone slab is over a metre long with a single roughly centered basin, it is positioned between two shrubs and at times covered in ivy. Usually bullaun stones are found at or close to ecclesiastic sites, this one is located 120 metres north of Clane Abbey. Some bullauns are pre-christian, locally this stone is said to mark the spot where the mythological King of Leinster, Mesgegra was slain by the Ulster warrior Conall Cernach. The Norman motte at Clane was reputedly built on top of an earlier mound, said to be the burial place of King Mesgegra.
