Errarooey Beg / Oirear Dhumhaí Beag

Portal Tomb

The portal tomb tomb at Errarooey Beg consists of two reasonably matched portal stones, a doorstone and a displaced roofstone. Another small stone lies next to the southern portal , but it may not be part of he monument. The northern portal, nearest in the image below, stands 1.2 metres high and the top slopes from east to west. The south portal of this small compact monument is just 1.05 metres high. The doorstone, furthest right below, is roughly half the height of the portals and stands in the 0.6 metre gap between them. At first glance it would appear that the chamber lay to the east of the portals, but because of the arrangement of the doorstone and the portals the chamber must have been on the west side, or right side in the image below, facing east. The Muckinish mountain range lies to the south of the monument.
