Bullaun Stone

This large irregulary-shaped bullaun stone was moved to the Roman Catholic chapel in Castlegregory from Killiney graveyard. It is believed the graveyard at Killiney may be the site of an Early Christian foundadtion, there is certainly enough evidence at Killiney pointing to an early settlement. The metre long stone was found built into the wall of the graveyard. A large single bullaun, over 0.3m in diameter is present in the upper surface of the unworked boulder. The bullaun stone seems totally out of place, lying on the lawn of the chapel, it would have more significance if it stood at it's original location.

Situated: On the east side of New Road, Castlegregory, on grounds of the Roman Catholic chapel.
