Tanderagee Anglo-Norman Motte In the images below the motte at Tanderagee might not look very impressive, this is due to the vegetation surrounding the monument. The motte is well over 20 metres in diameter with quite steep sides. It is enclosed by a wide fosse, you can clearly see tall rushes growing in the water-logged fosse, in the images below. The motte is situated on a hillside on the southern outskirts of Baileborough town, and offers spectacular commanding views of the area. The monument is situated in the middle of a field boundary. There is a distinct line of this type of monument from Edgeworthstown across to Dundalk, the Tanderagee and Relagh Beg mottes are situated 12-15 kilometres north west of this line.
